Taylor Swift Takes Over the NFL
Taylor Swift has officially taken over the NFL on social media. For the last few weeks, rumors have been swirling that Swift is dating Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs star tight-end. While this seemed to be just rumors fueled by influencers and Swift fans, otherwise known as “Swifties”, Taylor showed up to his game on Sunday and watched from his box seats with his family. Swift’s presence and reactions lit football social media on fire, so we highlighted the record-setting day and some of the top posts!
Swifties Help Boost Kelce’s Social Media
Taylor Swift fans are flocking to Travis Kelce‘s social media. In the last 30 days, Kelce has increased his following by over 500,000. This 10% growth brings his total following to over 5.7 million followers and can be attributed to the fact that he is reaching new fan bases outside of football. People who were never interested in football now want to follow Travis Kelce purely because he is dating one of the world’s most popular musicians.
Kelce is leaning into the hype as he was seen leaving the game with Swift in a denim suit inspired by the artist’s album 1989. The TikTok of them walking out the stadium is now the fifth highest engaged post by the NFL this year. Kelce was already gaining traction on social media with his podcast, New Heights, that he records with his brother and Philadelphia Eagles center, Jason, but his dating life has taken his fame to ‘new heights’ (see what we did there).
Swift Takes Chief’s Social Media to New Heights
On a day where the Chief’s destroyed the winless Chicago Bears in a blowout, the Chief’s social media accounts recorded their sixth best day in terms of total engagements all year! While big plays and big wins perform well, connecting with pop culture is the kind of content that TikTok audiences crave.
Swift Challenges NFL’s Super Bowl Engagement
The NFL recorded their second best day on TikTok in 2023 on Sunday, falling behind only the Super Bowl. It’s important for teams and leagues to take advantage of cultural moments like this to reach different demographics that they would not have been in contact with. Leaning into these moments is essential to staying relevant and popular with younger fan bases.

Of the top 10 most engaged posts from NFL Week 3 (Thursday to Sunday), seven of them were Swift-related content, and the top four all came from TikTok! Check out some of our favorites:
