2022-23 NBA Jersey Patch Sponsors
After exploring the 2022-23 jersey sponsorships of the Premier League and LaLiga Santander, we turn our attention to the hardcourt for a new season of NBA basketball.
The NBA has been a leader in jersey sponsorships for major sports leagues in the United States. Starting in the 2017-18 season, the NBA was the first major sports league in the US (outside of soccer) to allow teams to sell advertising space on jerseys.
Fans will see over 86% of NBA teams with a jersey patch sponsor this year. NBA teams have a variety of patch partners, from global entertainment companies to regional trade companies. Market size, fanbase demographics, and brand personality play a part in creating successful partnerships between brands and teams.
NBA Jersey Patch Partners
Of the 30 teams in the NBA, 26 teams have active jersey patch partnerships. These sponsorships are a great opportunity for teams to get in on the action and create new revenue streams. For brands, they create valuable exposure at games and on social media by partnering with NBA teams.
Of the top 15 brands by total engagement during the 2021-22 NBA season, 10 brands were official NBA sponsors and four brands were jersey patch partners — Rakuten & Golden State; Bibigo & the Lakers; Motorola & Bucks / Motorola & Pacers; Zenni & the Bulls. The one non-NBA sponsor was JP Morgan Chase, an official sponsor of the Golden State Warriors.
The top industries for 2022-23 NBA jersey patch partners are financial (10 brands) and software (three brands). The rest of the teams have a wide range of sponsors, from telecomm and Ecommerce to healthcare and entertainment.
